This brings up a bit of a convoluted (on my part) observation. As Hitler was making his initial moves, Europe placated him. He wouldn’t have ascended if it weren’t for the savage reprisals of Versailles...which would come back in Spades upon them. Then there was the “Peace in our time” accord which proved just how much of a wimp the soon to be Allies would be as H got everything ready to march across Europe. The “saving grace” for Europe was that Japan unexpectedly hit us and drew us into the war...which a furious Hitler absolutely did not yet want—he was after Soviets first. Up to that point, Churchill was besides himself with FDR, and saw Pearl Harbor as an act of relief for Britain. Without that “surprise” of the attack, we would never have mustered the public to fight Europe’s War or stop the travesty in China.
The timid responses by the recent previous administration caused me to wonder if we would really respond to the devastation of Israel? Clearly Iran wants to wipe it off the map.
Let’s see now. We paid how many billions to Iran? All the while they slaughtered people, and continue deliberate mass attacks upon population centers. As long as the previous administration had a kill book, I don’t recall mass hysteria by a party in Congress. Oh—I’m sorry, we were only killing lesser beasts...remotely and out of sight.
The mass of nearly unrecognizable flaming junk was a pretty and awesome sight. Too bad he didn’t have a moment of seeing what was coming for him. Can’t have much weight with just pieces and DNA samples in his casket. If there is no life after death, he has no idea what happened...such a shame. His vaunted intelligence network blew it..pun intended.

A second thought occurred...the article describes many facets to the personality and ascendency of Soleimani within the Iranian power structure. This causes me to wonder. Just who fed us the intelligence which pinpointed the opportunity to get rid of this preening murderous self-aggrandizing powerhouse? An act of elimination not foreign to the region, even amongst close family members. Weeping into the hanky in one hand and sipping champagne from the other?? A story oft told through the ages since the Monolith and apes of “2001” .

I was just remarking to my wife earlier tonight that we saw in history how well appeasement doesn't work. Neville Chamberlain advocated for it with Hitler and we all saw how it turned out. I am not a fan of FDR, but I do admire the fact that he did see the handwriting on the wall and take what action he could to begin moving the US to a war time footing. Given the razor's edge by which the Battle of the Atlantic was decided, if we had started completely flat footed, I seriously wonder if we would have prevailed.
