Thanks TSgt Joe C. for letting us know that on February 2, 1942 Vidkun Quisling, a collaborator with the German occupiers of Norway, is established as prime minister of a puppet government.
My British parents were teenagers in London in the Battle of Britain until my mother was evacuated. I was taught at a young age that Quisling meant traitor.

A fascinating movie to view about this part of Norwegian history is "The King's Choice" (it is subtitled in English). Regarded as one of the greatest Norwegians of the twentieth century, he is particularly revered for his courage during the German invasion—he threatened abdication if the government cooperated with the invading Germans—and for his leadership and preservation of Norwegian unity during the occupation. In April 1940, the King Haakon was presented with an ultimatum from the German armed forces: surrender or die. With Nazi soldiers hunting them, the Royal Family is forced to flee the capital. The Crown Princess Märtha left Norway with the children to seek refuge in Sweden, while King Haakon and the Crown Prince Olav fled to a small farming area and met the Germans head on. After three days of desperately trying to evade the Germans, King Haakon makes his final decision. He refuses to capitulate, even if it may cost him, his family and many Norwegians their lives. They eventually did escape to England.
