Thanks for letting us know that Radio Hanoi announced the death of Ho Chi Minh and proclaimed that the National Liberation Front would halt military operations in the South for three days, September 8-11, while the nation mourned for Ho Chi Minh.
In WWII Ho was our ally against the Japanese. After the war he became an implacable enemy after the USA did not support independence for French Indochina from France.

LTC Stephen F.
CPT Gary Jugenheimer - I expect that POTUS LBJ was aware of the history of French Indochina and if he wasn't some of his advisers certainly were.

Communism isn't big on Religion so the next best thing they have to Saints is Heroes and he most definitely was a Hero to them. I would say he was very well traveled and educated and most definitely a Student of the Age of Enlightenment and our US Forefathers and incorporated quite a bit of what they wrote into North Vietnam's Founding Documents. Very Interesting Man.
