Another woman ahead of her time; Rewya Ateya was the first woman parliamentarian of the Arab World who fought in a predominantly male parliament for woman's rights and won the first law allowing women a two-month maternity leave with full pay. She visited the communist bloc and openly said that her wish was for Egypt to become like the United States of America. Ateya lived to the age of 71 and today we celebrate her.

I was not yet born. Rawya Ateya was breaking ground for Muslim women in the Arab World at the same time frame that Martin Luther King, Jr and Malcolm X were breaking ground for civil rights for Negro Americans. How about two different histories paraelling in the world at the same time. CPT Gurinder (Gene) Rana I learned a piece of Women's History I was never taught and certainly from a part of the world at a time I could not have dreamed to be possible. I enjoyed the read.
