There was a time when everyone worried over "the bomb". It didn't fill our days, but the fear was always lurking somewhere in the corner of everyone's mind. Not even children were immune. We practiced duck and cover drills at school. We watched a cartoon turtle demonstrate how to "survive" the bomb. The fear leapt into the open one day when the Cuban Missile Crisis began, but was safely tucked back into the recesses of our minds when Khruschev blinked. Thankfully, the fear diminished to a distant memory when the Cold War ended. I wonder know if it is going to spring forth again with renewed paranoia now that terrorists and lunatics are playing with nuclear weaponry...
