Sad but true. Even sadder is the realization that I have contributed to the problem by ignoring it. Like Marley in Dicken's "A Christmas Carrol," I lost sight of the fact that my fellow man was my business. Instead, I thought that living my life as best I could was sufficiently virtuous. Allowing the feeble in spirit to lead the descent into chaos is ruing my nation and my life. And when I take refuge in the fact that I'm 81 and will likely (hopefully) escape into the comfort of eternal rest before the final fall, I am forgetting that I am leaving the problem unsolved for my children and grandchildren. I suppose that irony for them lies in the fact that they have cast me out of their lives for failing to embrace the chaos that they now embrace.

The perspective from my limited range scope all comes back to when the state's legislators decided to legalize marijuana. Suddenly the people can't accept responsibility for their deeds from a simple fender bender to unrestrained murder.
There was a fellow killed by police in front of me at a Walmart store. A local TV station interviewed the man's family and they said he had been in trouble but had really worked hard to turn his life around and was improving every day. Police were trying to arrest him for shoplifting but he fiercely resisted. When they say a pistol they acted defensively and shot him. He also had a homemade key that opened the cabinets where vulnerable items are kept to help curb shoplifting. I understand the family's sorrow but if they really wanted to prevent more of this happening to other families they should demand their representatives strike the laws giving permission to become an addict.
