In the process of using a raspberry pi3 for the same purpose. So far it's going great; surpising how this little thing will fly right out of the box.

PO3 Jerry Webb I really would be interested in how it works out for you. I have been eyeballing the Raspberry Pi 3 to replace my cheap Android TV in the bedroom.
Also, plase let me know if there is anything I cna improve on with my blog. Thanks!

The Pi3 comes with some free downloads that deliver different parts and parcel of what is available already; which makes it relatively easy to replace some of your television viewing. The audio streams are selectable and come right up. I hooked a small LED projector ($45-50) which hooks up HDMI so that covers most of what I personally want in the way of a media server.
