The three faithful men refused to compromise—even at the risk of their lives. As we can see from their words, “But if not….” their conviction did not come from a promise that God would deliver them. They were full of faith. They lived by faith, and they were prepared to die in faith. We, too, are called to be faithful in the face of death. Neither do we have a promise of deliverance from the hands of ungodly men. God allowed Stephen to be martyred, as well as eleven of the original apostles and millions of other martyrs down through the ages.

Ernest Pickering wrote a terrific book called "The Tragedy of Compromise" many years ago and it spells out what we have done to our faith through the various compromises we have embraced over the decades. His predictions have come true and there are many churches and Christians alike that have gone apostate in the process. We are to be as Daniel and as the Apostles were but too many are weak in the faith rather wishing to have their ears tickled on a Sunday or from the comfort of their easy chair watching some Charlatan pontificate about a doctrine so far removed from the true Gospel it is not even recognizable as part of the Christian religion.
