And sooo ...? The investigation is not finished.
I once was a suspect (along with the rest of my crew) for a pair of missing PVS-5s. The vehicle was locked up in the staging area under guard. When we came back from hot chow the hatch was still locked. When we were told to pack the equipment for shipment in the Conex, the PVS-5s were discovered missing after we unlocked the vehicle.
We did a 100% search of the troop right on the line. They were found in the CO's Jeep. His driver had taken them because the commander told him he didn't care how he got a functioning pair, but to just get them.
So he did.
