An SDPD Officer fresh out of the academy makes approximately $48,000 a year. Not nearly enough to live off of in San Diego county. Perhaps SDPD should rethink its pay scale.

SSgt GG-15 RET Jim Lint Unless you have a calling to do this job, don't. It's not like the old days. Public that you are going to interact with most is against you. Administration/supervisors are against you. Media is against you. You are always Monday morning quarterbacked on every decision you make, having only seconds in real world time to act. Pendulum will hopefully swing the other way, just not looking like anytime soon. ESPN even published a poem from an exiled cop killer. Tough job, even tougher career. Can be rewarding, just make sure it's what you want to do. Good luck should you decide to accept the challenge. Blessed be the peacemakers.

Having done both I think that it is an opportunity to use your mindset, which you got in the military.
It doesn't work for everyone and some of you will be a challenge to your employer. I wasn't an MP, never even liked them, some of it will help some will be an impairment. I could never stand sitting in an office or working at a desk. I walked out of the Investigations Unit because of the endless paperwork.
