COL Charles Williams First point that is made is false logic. It is true that the Republicans nominated Trump, but it was the will of the Republican Primary Voters. Furthermore, the Democrats chose in their primaries a candidate who failed to resonate with voters, both Democrat and Independents. She was a candidate who presumed that Democrat stronghold states would vote for her, without campaigning in those states. It was a presumption she got wrong. What both parties failed to realize (republicans during primary and democrats in general) is that We the People are PISSED OFF, and were not willing to accept candidates as usual. So to say Republicans are responsible is to say the Democrats take no responsibility for their own short comings.
That being said, human beings are the only species on planet earth with the ability to both destroy and preserve the planet. We are destroying our planet. Deforestation, atmospheric pollution, water pollution all serve to ruin the only planet we have. This morning the news was talking about Dolphins here in FL that have super high Mercury levels. This is an indication that Mercury levels are rising in the food chain. It is a matter of time before that gets to us. What is needed is a balance between using resources in a way that benefits us, and preserving the environment. Economics is the real issue. Money is the driving force in modern human endeavor. There is less money in conservation than there is in production. Production requires using resources. Unless those resources are used responsibly environmental destruction is the result. I am not one of those doom and gloomers who think we should all be running around in grass sandals living in communes. I think that we need to make every effort to restore that which is used. When a tree is cut down, plant a seed. When a mining concludes, restore the landscape. Radioactive waste, encase it in concrete before disposal. Bio fuels instead of fossil fuels. These steps would be moving in the right direction.
