It will be costly. The Iraqi government soldiers are from the Shia militias in a Sunni-dominated area. I wonder how they will do and what about the after? The Iraqi government has been all F-d up infighting and never agreeing on anything and the Iranian influence means its most likely a puppet of Iran already. One measure of that is the Iraqi government giving Hezbollah M1a1 Abrahms tanks that were supposed to stay in Iraqi Army hands. If they win back Mosul, how will they maintain peace and stability if the Shia are the victors and the Sunnis are the minority who resent them especially if the Shia militias commit atrocites?

SSG Derrick L. Lewis MBA, C-HRM - thanks SSG it pissed me off like you don't know how much to see this tank system in the wrong hands. I just hope their mainteance crews all get zapped and the tanks become abandoned. They must have a a maintenance kit and I bet some went to Kuwait to get trained up on fixing themt or they have a contract. I know some have said here some of the info is classified but I am sure they will find a way around that. It sickens me so freaking much that the same guys Iran helped blow up our troops in Beirut in 1983 are now prancing around in these tanks in Iraq.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1w8NnxdYME

If they want to live, they will keep those main guns pointed the right way.
They have little by way of maint support, techs and parts, they do not have extensive use, troubleshooting as a crew, nor fighting this tank as a combined force.
If they start to launch what few main gun rounds they have at the wrong targets, say an MRAP, I'd give them 10 min in the fight before US tank crews, CAS, Drone strike and Infantry could take each and every "enemy" tank out of action.
I've had some tank crews I would not trust with my wife, my wallet or alone new in my beer room... But crew a tank and hit a moving target they could do.

I expect the retaking of Mosul will be very challenging but it should be much less costly in green or blue lives than Stalingrad or Berlin were in WWII SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL.
Many were driven from Mosul at the point of the sword - Christians, Kurds and other were forced to flee.
The first stage of this conflict will be to kill or drive out the ISIS fighters and their supporters from Mosul and its environs. Expect they will fight to the death because f the previous examples of public executions of ISIS fighters who fled from their posts.
The second stage ill be clearing the area of booby traps, mines, etc.
The third stage will be bringing back the refugees and assisting them by evicting squatters from their homes and former places of business. This will take firmness and diplomacy to limit further bloodshed.

This time, we won't have billons of US dollars to rebuild the city since we are not there with CA or psyops teams like we did 10 years ago.

LTC (Join to see) - If things go reasonably well the oil-rich region of the northern Iraq should be able to generate sufficient income to fund the rebuilding, They will probably need some external resources to rebuild the oil-refining capability facilities including pipelines.
