The military has created a "sweet spot" for Officers to retire at 22 years / high three
- in most cases (without prior service) an officer will retire as a LTC.
No issues staying on as a LTC without promotion, however when considering family and forgoing our best earning years, there is no incentive.
SoF offers enlisted and warrant a generous 6 figure incentive at 18 years to stay till 24 years. Not saying 150k bonus is necessary...... But to extend the pay scale would be appropriate beyond 22 yr max.

Not sure how much I buy in difference of service makes. Pilots and docs are hard to come by in any service.
