I'll let my knee jerk...Hell no! Maybe in locations that do not have a high population but in larger cities and communities, this will not work. The citizens already are very vocal about lack of patrols. Not everyone is cut out to be a police officer. No matter how many tests you take, it will not prepare you for what is really out there. We need to continue to train and have respect for everyone...no matter what.

Well, your knee jerked in the same direction as mine. However, I have to ask, did you watch the full video? How would you respond to their observations other than with a knee-jerk reaction?

The police and the fire department have very different jobs. We have patrols out so when people call 9-1-1 a cop can be there pretty quickly, not always quick enough but quickly. If we only dispatched from the nearest precinct/office it could double/triple/quadruple response time. A lot can happen in that time and I suspect there would be a lot said about that.
It is a balance for sure. No one wants an over aggressive LEO entity in their area. We also need to think about the people we elect that pass legislation that law enforcement is tasked to enforce.
Mayor Giuliani (and others) did a nice job making NYC some place you could visit and feel relatively safe with their broken window and stop and frisk polices. We can see NYC crime rates lifting since that has been stopped by the current idiot running the city.

The idea of this is ludicrous. Proactive patrols have been know to prevent crimes. It is not always about catching crimes in progress.

CPT Jack Durish - This is based on experience so unfortunately I can't state any resources except for experience.
I've got over 15 years law enforcement experience with local, military, and federal law enforcement and have worked investigations, patrol, and narcotics. I have interviewed suspects who stated they planned incidents based on the times they believed officers would not be patrolling that particular area.
Perhaps someone else knows where peer reviewed sources for this topic can be located.
