Thanks for reminding us SGT John " Mac " McConnell about the Battle of the Rosebud.
The lust for gold or more accurately there is gold in them thar hills prompted the Us government to renege on the Treaty of Fort Laramie (1868).
Indian warfare tended to be fluid and this battle was no exception to that rule of thump. Thankfully the Crow and Shoshoni allies prevented General George Crook's "Bighorn and Yellowstone Expedition, consisted of 993 cavalry and mule-mounted infantry, 197 civilian packers and teamsters, 65 Montana miners, three scouts, and five journalists" from being surprised and possibly suffering a catastrophic defeat.
