My favorite stories about this piece of music is from Ben Carson. He was in a hospital in South Africa during apartheid separating conjoined black twins who where joined at the head. It was eleven o’clock at night, Dr Carson had been operating all day and was exhausted. He stepped back from the operating table and silently prayed, “ Dear God I can’t go on, I am exhausted. “. Dr Carson knew he had to finish, he stepped forward and continued the operation . As dawn was breaking and they were nearing finishing the case the station they were listening to on the radio played the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s Messiah.
