Royal engagement exposes Britain's 'quiet and unique brand of racism'

I've always had the feeling that the British... not just the royals, but all the Brits are a bit racist toward the whole world... I caught on during a short trip to London many years back... I realized I had been looking straight into raised nostrils right back to the adenoids every time I ordered beer.... or presented myself to a hotel desk clerk with inquiry into a room for the night. To me that wasn't racist behavior as much as it was snobbery... someone sizing me up from across a room and determining with but one look that I had no blue blood... nor money enough to make their effort worthwhile. Right on both counts. I just imagined their behavior came with the territory. Like hounds to the chase. I've never stopped imagining nose hairs since, nor purple adenoids whenever I have taken a beer from a cooler at 7-11 or tried to rent a room at Motel 6.

Just a few years ago I heard that Lord Randolph Henry Spencer Churchill (Winston's Dad) had given the Burmese a sampling of conceit during his first visit to that land. ... (Now I'm calling it conceit) As the story goes Churchill Senior refused to take off his boots when he entered some important Burmese building to conduct business with high falutin Burmemes .... possibly royalty. The Brits haven't been welcome since.... You never... never, never wear shoes into an Asian home...

Now NBC has told some writer that they need to fill about forty inches of drivel about another racist viewpoint... even if it means making something up.... and I think they have made a good attempt but nothing spot on..... I would much rather have read something about British fine clothing or their betting game but ... instead, another article about race.... The Brits aren't racists ... they just hate everyone equally.

I cannot figure out the fascination with the royals for Americans, especially as it related to marriage. Their track record on marriage is pretty poor (at least keeping them together for better or worse). My wife is a Brit so I have to endure a little bit of this but I have a pretty hard stop after about 5 minutes. Then I remind her the royals are the largest state welfare case in Great Britain and serve no real useful purpose. It gets a little chilly after that.
