Police have fired rubber bullets and tear gas at protesters in Hong Kong where anger at a new extradition bill has spilled over into violence.
Protesters have blocked key roads around government buildings and threw bricks and projectiles at police.
The government is still pushing for the bill which would allow extradition to mainland China and it is expected to pass its final vote on 20 June.
But the Legislative Council (LegCo) has now delayed its second reading.

This is a mess. I can understand their concerns as being extradited to China where the judicial system is questionable has to be terrifying. However, failure to manage this in a reasonable way will make Hong Kong a sanctuary for criminals.

"Criminals" in a Western sense of committing an actual crime, or "criminals" in the Chinese sense, as in criticizing the Communist Party? I think the protests are over the latter, given the history of Hong Kong.

The British should have done more in the 90s when the lease agreement ran out. Everyone knew it was BS the China promised to keep out of the Democratic processes of Hong Kong.
