I understand how he feels. I first tried to get appointments in Denmark, but no Danish doctors wanted to, so it's to Germany. I always try to get my appointments on a Friday or Monday as I can use a weekend day for travel as it usually takes a day's travel to get there. One thing I've learned, and maybe might help some CONUS, rural vets is, when notified of appointments, immediately CALL and see if appointments can be changed. I've done this over here and the doc in Germany making the appointments for me was very helpful. I think if they(docs) understand, they might work with us better.

Thanks for mentioning those veterans who live in rural parts of this country SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL. Those who live far from VAMCs and clinics may feel stranded at times. I believe the same is true for veterans who are living overseas.
MyHealthEvet can help as can the toll free numbers to keep rural veterans in touch with appropriate medical personnel, counselors, etc. One of the best helps can be fellow veterans who live nearby.

LTC Stephen F. thanks for your advise and recommendations.
MYHEALTHEVET is a great resource and will help immensely if Veterans use it. It could make a huge difference in healthcare talking to your PCMT.

Despite rumor, the VETERANS CHOICE PROGRAM was created for Veterans that live in rural areas. After the Phoenix thing us when the wait time portion of that program was added.
So, with this knowledge, if you are more than 40 miles from ANY VA Clinic or hospital, then use this program!!!
Call your nearest VA Clinic and say I need to make this appt this appt and this appt, I'd like to use Veterans Choice, please assist.....if they don't they are wrong,
If that happens, call me at my desk in California, I'm happy to help with any knowledge I have. NO Veteran should have to drive three hours for an appointment, there are exceptions to this but remember its 40 miles from ANY VA, not 40 miles to the VA care you want. [login to see]
I'm the only one that answers it, I work for the Santa Maria CA VA clinic. call anytime.
