Stalin had already negotiated with us to enter the war on 11 August. They had also negotiated the surrender of the Kwang Tung Army. That meant the Japanese would be surrendering to Soviet Communists, not Chiang Kai Sheks Nationalist Chinese. The Kwang Tung Army was a force made up of Korean, Japanese and Manchurians. Supposedly the Army of Manchu Kuo, Emporer Pu Yi's Kingdom. The Islands were territory Russia had surrendered to Japan after the 1905 War

Nice share, but very misleading and incorrect by the title. What a despicable way to try and rewrite history.
First is that Japan had not surrendered, they had announced the they would surrender; actually only three days before the campaign for the Kurils was launched.
Secondly but more importantly the main campaign (Soviet Invasion of Manchuria), of which the Kuril Islands campaign was a part of was actually launched one week (7 days) before the Japanese announced that they would surrender. It is also interesting to note that the Manchurian campaign was launched on the same day as the bombing of Hiroshima with the atomic bomb. It should also be noted that this is the same campaign that led to the Korean War in 1950.
And why would an American journalist on international affairs, security and military history would resort to using a Spanish language order of battle map of the Manchurian campaign, that does not even include Sakhalin Island which was part of the main thrust of the Kuril Islands campaign to begin with.
Considering the presentation of information and the illustration used, I really can not understand how he got a Master's Degree in Conflict Resolution from Georgetown University. Especially considering the premise of this article.
What to me is so disappointing is that if this individual had presented this material to one of my Junior High history teachers as a report, it probably would have received a low grade.
