Thanks for making us aware LTC (Join to see) that after a delay of more than four decades, Russia is launching the 33,500-ton Arktika ice breaker in June 2016 and preparing to introduce the 6,000-ton Ilya Muromets ice breaker into service in fall 2017.
"After that, Russia will introduce the 7,000-ton Ivan Papanin, or Project 23550. It is not surprising to me that the new ice breaker will two have offensive capabilities including "Kalibr-type anti-ship cruise missiles and a 76-millimeter AK-176MA naval gun in a turret designed to provide a low radar cross-section." After all the Russian navy is a military service, the arctic contains vast resources and Russia has the longest seacoast in the world even if it is mostly ice.
