I read the article. It lacks depth.
Russia has been letting the world know it is a regional power with it's latest two rounds of war games.
Half if Ukrainians see themselves as Russian.
What Kiev is fighting are Russian special forces with Infranty support. But, they are not wearing insignia and communicate mostly by notes. It is hard to surveil that type of troop action.
In my opinion, if American slaps NK and Iran, Russia will move towards Israel with it's Alies.
It's just a gut feeling with limited info.

I disagree with you about Ukraine, there are no Russian forces there.
That region, although nominally part of Ukraine are ethnic Russian that speak Russian as a first language. That particular area was known to have some of the largest Soviet era weapons Depots and tank parks in the world, so when the Civil War began there was no shortage of weapons. The first Ukrainuan units mobilized defected to Novorossiya providing at least 8,000 combat effectives with their vehicles and equipment.
When Ukraine terminated water, Gas & Electric to that region the Russian stepped in to connect the grid to prevent the people from Starving in the dark through the winter. The Russians do continue to provide humanitarian support such as food and Medicine, and it is likely they have placed that region under an air umbrella using the S-400 to prevent the Ukrainians from continually bombing them with aircraft which is what spurred the Civil War to begin with.
I don't expect you to know all this but I did follow the conflict closely as it developed, and no I am not a Russian agent.

Cpl Mark A. Morris - Ukrainians seem to have tremendous animosity towards Russia and blame them for their own failings. Many that I have known are irrational on the subject. But I certainly do not know your wife or her family and cannot speak for her.
The Russian Army in its current state could have been in Kiev within 24 hours if they wanted to take Ukraine. They choose not to do so, because Ukraine is a failed state with a psychotic population.
The fighting in Ukraine will continue indefinitely because it seems to be what all parties want, a Frozen conflict with no clear resolution. It's very hard on the people there and millions of ukrainians have already voted with their feet, moving to Russia where there are jobs and safety. How ironic, eh?

SSG Diane R. - What Pornography? I understand your point. I know they are the Madonna or the female Rage against the Russian Machine. They also do anti-Trump Videos. I am not really a fan of them but the sacriligeous video was funny in what they were saying 'Mother Mary, Mother of God, please take Putin Away' or something like that. Kind of like the video from the Clash of Rock the Cashbah where the Orthodox Jew and the Arab are partying together and driving a Cadillac. I realize the Basilica was desecrated. I am Catholic. Personally, I thought it was funny though I Respect the East Orthodox Church. I am not praising this desecration.

Although the religious parody video maybe be funny, it was done without permission in a church that holds special significance for the people of Russia.
Imagine going into the national Cathedral Washington DC and taking a shit on the floor and calling it art. Or at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. It offended the sensibilities of millions of people and certainly didn't win that group any friends in Russia.
If we keep poking that bear he's going to bite, and when he does the world will shake.
