Once upon a time, I uhhhhh, knew this guy, yeah that’s the ticket. Well early in his military career he went to a “No Nukes” concert in Santa Barbara. Being somewhat wise he, he did not advertise his military status. Wasn’t even there to make a statement, but the musical lineup was top notch, CSN&Y, Fleetwood Mac, Linda Ronstadt. So he went watched the show, and returned to his unit. No big deal. Three days later over the ships 1MC he heard his name being requested to lay to the wardroom.
Upon arrival, the CO was waiting with 3 guys in leisure suits ( it was the 70’s ) waiting. The next thing He knew one of the polyester wearing guys pulls out a Federal ID, and stated that the service member should be ashamed of attending the concert.
The service member being cool, said “what concert”? Leisure suit Larry said we know you were hanging out with a bad crowd, because we wrote down your Base parking decal number while your car was parked at the concert.
Now the young Petty Officer, who had just been pinned 3rd Class thought I am in deep shit.
At this point the CO, asked if the Petty Officer was in uniform. The answer was they didn’t know.
So they were told there was no violation of the UCMJ, unless they had more. They left and my CO let out a belly laugh and looked at me and admitted he was at the concert, too.
