There was a WW2 post named after the General. Camp Maxey is in East Texas not far from Commerce and I believe the National Guard still owns and uses some of the training area.

Thanks for reminding us TSgt Joe C. that one March 30, 1825 Confederate General Samuel Bell Maxey was born in Tompkinsville, Kentucky. After the Civil War he served as US Senator from Texas from 1975 to 1987.
He is graduate of USMA, West Point number 1,329
For comparison I am USMA, West Point graduate number 37,403.
