PO1 William "Chip" Nagel - I worked with staff sergeant maunder who was a Corporal in the Marine Corps. He survived the Beirut bombing because he was in the adjacent building in the basement. He joined Army Reserve civil affairs unit in Upland California in 2007. He was immediately promoted to Sergeant because he was in a sergeant slot and his primary leadership course from the from the USMC counted. He was a spotter for battleships. He was Airborne qualified. He spoke fluent Spanish and she was married to a Mexican even though he was half Japanese. Very interesting guy and he showed me a picture of him standing on top of the rubble of the Beirut barracks looking down on the ground from the roof of the collapsed building. He showed me a book where he was in but I have not seen this picture since.
