I wrote this as a Facebook status on January 20th, 2017:
President Obama,
I didn't vote for you. I never entirely trusted you. But for 8 years you were my Commander in Chief. MY president. I supported you when i thought you were right, opposed you when i thought you were wrong. On that day 8 years ago when you were sworn in, i joined you and millions of Americans in celebrating the moment. I wanted you to go on and become the greatest president we've ever had. I won't judge here and now if you have met that lofty goal, as the years will tell the tale. But as your time ends in our highest office, I say thank you for taking up the thankless immeasurable task of leading this unruly band of disparate hooligans for a time. I suspect that you leave office a better, wiser man. Deep in your core I suspect you are good man who did what he thought was best. That's all we can ask.
President Trump,
I didn't vote for you. I don't entirely trust you. But once again on this day I hope that you will become the greatest president this country has ever known. We ARE a great nation, but our star has faded. We need a unifying force. A president for all Americans. We have our problems. Quite often we are our own problems. Don't just talk. Do. I don't know what the next four years will hold, but you are MY president, my commander in chief. I will serve the people and your office as I have served 3 of your predecessors, to the best of my ability in the interests of freedom for all and righting the wrongs where we can. You will hopefully leave this office a wiser, better man, with a wiser, better country. Be a good man and do what you think is best. It's okay to be wrong, its never acceptable to be less than your best. We deserve that in a leader. Good luck.

SSG James J. Palmer IV aka "JP4" SFC Casey O'Mally thank you both for the kind words gentlemen
Not only have I challenged those Americans who said that President Obama wasn't their President during that Administration, but also insisted that they treat him with respect (using the proper honorifics and not making a mockery of his name). I insisted that such sophomoric behavior denigrated their criticisms of him as President as well as mine. Yes, I was a frequent and strong critic of his administration as well as his personal conduct (as well as his wife's) during his term in office. From the time I was a child, I remember church goers praying for the success of the President, every one of them, regardless of party affiliation or personal approval or disapproval. We respect the office, not the person per se.

Hey, we disagree a lot but I respect that view, and thank you for it.

Understood, so why is it wrong for me to disagree with the behavior of the current President. You never heard me say he is not my or president. I think he is a contemptuous ass, but he was elected and is president.

That kind of statement after an election doesn't reflect poorly on the President but on the people who say it.

MSgt Michael Bischoff - Don't ask me. I never said anyone had no right to disagree with anyone, including any President. I sure as hell have exercised that right with every President, some more frequently than others.
