I don't think those of us who are retired currently should have to pay either. When I enlisted I was promised that if I served 20 years me and my spouse would have free medical for life.
I have said repeatedly if the government wants to change that then do it with the ones joining today. You inform them what they will get if they serve to retirement, early out, etc these are the benefits you will receive. You cannot, with good moral conscious, change the rules in the middle of the game.
I served 25 years with my eye on the ball that I entered service with. I faithfully chased that ball, denied retirement 3 times due to the world situation, until I was released from my service. I didn't complain or whine that my last 8 years I was separated from my family. I was fulfilling my obligation. I now expect my government to fulfill the promises they made to me when I joined.

We have to release hundreds of thousands of service members to save money, we have to accept penny's on the dollar for pay raises to save money, We have to endure changes to our retirement plan to save money, were even threatens to go without pay for the sake of saving money. All of that is still not enough? Now, they want veterans who destroyed their bodies on active duty to pay more for health care and new soldiers to help foot the bill? For our forces to number less than 1% of the country we can't possibly be spending more than every other organization funded by our government. Our elected leaders are looking for the easy solution and not diving any deeper. They really need to dive into unit budgeting issues.
