Dogs don't want or need valor medals. They are not humans. They don't understand medals or this type of recognition system. They are animals. Wasting time, effort and money on medals for dogs seems impractical. Dogs do what they do because they are highly trained and loyal to their handler/trainer/owner. Dogs don't serve of their own volition, for patriotism or for recognition. They will never understand or appreciate the medal and what it means. I know politicians are always full of stupid ideas, this is just another one of those.

SMSgt Henry Kiester - From he article:

Sen. Bob Menendez, the lawmaker responsible for introducing legislation to create the Defense Department's first official award for military working dogs, sent a letter last week to Defense Secretary Mark Esper, advocating for speedy commendations for the handlers and dogs involved in the Oct. 26 raid -- most notably the Belgian Malinois that chased Baghdadi into a tunnel before he detonated a suicide vest.
