A severed cable shut down Virginia’s online voter registration system on its final day of operation before the election.
Officials say that a “fibre cut” was preventing multiple agencies from connecting to the system, according to the the Virginia Department of Elections.
These included the citizen portal and registrar’s offices and officials say it is unclear when it would be back up and running again.
"Due to a network outage, the Citizen Portal is temporarily unavailable. We are working with our network providers to restore service as quickly as possible," the department said on its registration website.

CSM Charles Hayden Now if You Want to Discuss this Particular Article. After I Retired from the Navy, I Started to work for Sprint in Network Control for the National Fiber Optic Network. When they Laid Me Off. They had already provided Me all the Technical Manuals for the Network to Include Locations. Yeah OPSEC wasn't their High Point and as a Spook I Know How Easy it it for Electronic Mischief Makers to Do Crap. Was this Intentional? Probably Not. As I have said on RP previously, in the 1970s, I met a SNCO from the 82nd Airborne. He told of being seconded to the Brits at? After being explicitly told he was not to accompany the British unit he was attached to, he nevertheless saddled up and went with them to the “riot” they were tasked to quell.
