Kelly may have been a great General but he sucks at history. Anyone with half a brain knows the civil war was over slavery.

Not sure what Kelly is talking about -
The Missouri Compromise - about slavery
Nat Turner’s Rebellion - about slavery
The Wilmot Proviso - about slavery
The Compromise of 1850 - about slavery
Bleeding Kansas - about slavery
Dred Scott v. Sanford - about slavery
John Brown’s Raid - about slavery
saying The Battle of Fort Sumter was about failure to compromise, state's rights or really anything
but slavery is very misleading - it was about slavery.

Are you referring to John Kelly or Roland Martin? I assume Kelly cause you just made Martin's case in regards to Kelly was clueless with his 'failure to compromise' statement. Just wanted to be sure my 'up vote' is in agreement.

Yes referring to Kelly's statement - clearly about the moral, economic and control in regards to slavery. Even when a compromise was reached leading up to the Civil War - it was about slavery. Three-Fifths "Compromise" was in fact the main thing I feel was a contributing factor for the Civil War as it allowed the "slave" states to have a disproportionate representation. After it was repelled southern states populations swelled as 3/5th became 1 - this allowed Southern Democrats to rule DC up until the 1960's - and as I'm sure your aware their power was used to defeat federal legislation against racial violence and abuses in the South. The Civil Was was actually to some degree the result of a compromise. (thanks for pointing out the ambiguity - I fixed that with an edit)
