For those interested in Civil War history - this old book might be of interest in the tale it tells.
Sometimes history overlaps - and is forgotten because of that.
Was working on a storyline out of Shelby's Expedition to Mexico... and came across this 1872 book on it. Our own version of military history usually stops when the surrender is made... then we jump to the next war - which in the Civil War was Lee's surrender to Grant - and skip over all the surrenders that occurred after it and the last battles of the war fought after Lee surrendered in other theaters. And then there was the French Expedition in Mexico, and this book is on BG Shelby's Iron Brigade of Missouri and Arkansas cavalrymen, joined by others in Texas who would not surrender, crossed the Rio Grande into Mexico to join the French.
