The manner in which the Coast was established and operate precludes the in ability to be absorbed to DOD.They must remain DOT in order to set forth their Law enforcement capability. Some things just need to stay as is,as is established by law.

Nothing is cut in stone, and, no, there is no preclusion about moving to DoD. Read the article.

First, they’re DHS, since 2003. Posse Commitatus (spelling) is the reason they state out of DoD. The USCG arrests, detains US citizens which DoD can only do in a very limited spectrum.

They would loose their Law Enforcement powers being subject to the Posse Comitatus Act. Y'all are fine where you are, and are considered to be the 5th Service anyway, IMO.

No, that is a myth. Most importantly, if the Prez and Congress decide it will be, all they have to do is write the appropriate new legislation to authorize the shift, and negate any legal doubt what the USCG can and cannot do. Third, there are active duty officers on here whose knowledge of the 2nd oldest continuously-operating service is all but non-existent. Anyone can tell by their ignorant answers. Read the article. Currently, DHS is an abysmal fit for us, and has been since 2002.

If new legislation was written, but why go through the drill when it works well the way it is. Unless y'all feel that you are missing out on something. I don't know the politics as you do, so I guess it is hard for us on the outside to know what the problems are with the current situation. DHS is a mess though. Stevie Wonder could tell that! LOL
The few Coasties I've known never had any complaints, but, the grass is always greener I guess.
