A1C (Join to see) I'm wondering if this is a command issue and "The Army" is being substituted for reference specifically to his command. There are Sikhs in the Army and this is not an issue that has not already been addressed. In fact: "On Jan. 22," 2014 " the Department of Defense issued a directive easing rules on beards and other displays of religious beliefs for military personnel in all branches of the armed forces. While special allowances have been made in rare cases in the past, the new directive gives wider leeway, especially for the existence of facial hair."
The military can now only deny the expression of “sincerely held belief” if it is judged to “have an adverse impact on military readiness, unit cohesion, and good order and discipline.”https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sikhs_in_the_United_States_military

Sikhs in the United States military - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
There have been Sikhs in the United States military as far back as World War I. Sikhs have served through all subsequent wars up until the present day. Since the 1980s, observant Sikhs have faced difficulty in serving due to a discontinuation of exemptions to uniform standards which previously allowed Sikhs to maintain their religiously-mandated beards and turbans while in uniform.

I was thinking the same thing. I don't know how he would say it was just him while other are doing just fine in the military. But, then again I have heard a District Manager tell a women she will never move up in the company because she is a women. Could be an isolated incident.
