So, it will be legal for me to get a straw if I use it to sip a drink and then pick my teeth. Will there "single-use" police patrolling everyone who uses a straw? Stupid law.

Suppose if you threw the straw in a trash receptacle after picking your teeth it would be fine. Problem is 90% of the people just toss single use plastic on the ground, so the law is only stupid for the 10% who actually do the right thing. Sounds like you're in that group, but laws govern the masses, not the minority.

Americans are not the cause of plastic ocean trash. The Pacific gyre is a result of Asian mismanagement. Banning plastic straws in the USA will not affect the current problem and will only raise prices and cause other problems.
