I think they missed the boat, honestly. Sentinels (which was on the list) would have been better, IMHO, or simply spaceman/spacewoman. Guardian begs the question "what are you guarding?"
Are they guarding Space? If so, are they guarding all of it? Part of it? Which parts?
How are they "guarding space" and what are they guarding it from?
Sentinel invokes a more observational protection - still protective, but in a much more limited capacity, which is more evocative of what the space force actually does. We are going to protect our own interests, but we do not have the right or authority to prevent other nations from operating in space - we cannot "guard space" itself.
