Interesting that the people who bought him are named as "Umm and Abu Ahmed" which means Mother and Father of Ahmed. It's amazing that the Iraqi forces were able to locate and return him to his family being that he was four years old at the time he is reported to have been initially sold and I wonder how much information he would have been able to supply them regarding his family. If the people who "bought" him knew the information then shame on them for not returning him themselves. If this story is true then it is truly amazing. The motive behind the alleged purchase of the child is shown in the woman's comment and it is in line with militant theology of removing the beliefs of all other sects of Islam as well as other religions in the area. Showing up here in the second part of her statement. She states her motive was “My objective was to win favor (with God),” said Umm Ahmed, only her eyes showing in a gap in her black veil. “To be honest, I wanted to teach him my religion, Islam." They failed to note that in Islam adoption is frowned upon and it is a very difficult thing to accomplish.According to the Sharee'ah (Islamic law), there is no legal adoption. It is prohibited for a person to legally adopt a son or a daughter of whom he is not the biological father. If a person adopts a son or daughter, the Sharee'ah will not confer on the adopted person the status or rights of a biological son or daughter. According to the Quran, one cannot become a person's real son merely by virtue of a declaration.
