I would imagine that some industrious souls have illicit stills hidden from prying eyes. It is a practice, that of producing illicit liquor/beer that spans centuries for military personnel.

Maj Robert Thornton 1953 Ft Knox: CPL Harry Lane, he who wore argyle socks with ODs and low-quarters was a graduate of the Army’s longest electronics school.

Admittedly in the moonshine business, upon his discharge, he intended to return to Knoxville, TN and drive whiskey running cars while evading the revenuers!
