They had jungle boots and jungle fatigues in WW2- in those parts of the War not well remembered anymore: the Pacific and the CBI,

Wait, the Army is pursuing a uniform which will be specified for a geographical location? How can that be? I thought that the ACU was the savior of all uniform issues.

SFC Smith, are you really suprised? How many times have we had to reinvent the wheel. almost every time I turn around I see it happening.

Trust the Army to reinvent the wheel for a requirement so simple as a jungle uniform. Having spent 12 long years 11B in light infantry units and a original graduate of the real jungle operations training center JOTC Ft. Sherman Panama the original rips top poplin OD jungle fatigues where and still are the go to uniform used since the Vietnam war.

OD and tiger stripes wore like steel in Panama and the time spent at JOTC was credited as in country in Vietnam. You don't get any more jungle than that anywhere in the world. Those things were comfortable, serviceable, long lasting in the jungle that's paramount, and dried after being soaked in minutes. The Army leadership would be wise to look to their past use what really worked and fix what's broken. Stop wasting precious funds on stuff like this.

Why is this happening my surmise would be yet another COS wants to put their stamp on the Army. No way better than change the uniform. That assures their legacy will go on for many years.

You want true jungle training close to CONUS no place better than Panama. Ft. Sherman still there just waiting for someone with foresight to reutilize this precious asset.
