Thanks TSgt Joe C. for letting us know that on December 28, 1973 that Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn’s “literary investigation” of the police-state system in the Soviet Union, The Gulag Archipelago, 1918-1956, was published in the original Russian in Paris.

TSgt Joe C.: I read Alexander Solzhenitsyn's The Gulag Archipelago. I felt that Solzhenitsyn was very, very brave in writing his book. I liked his, Solzhenitsyn's book, very much.

Sounds like the Soviets weren't very happy Solzhenitsyn’s work. Didn't want their dirty secrets revealed I guess. I'm surprised that the KGB let him live.
