Indeed. People have to step outside their own politics and think of this from an objective point of view. At any given point, you're going to come across someone you disagree with politically. You could either engage them or avoid them. Nothing ever changes if you avoid those you disagree with, but if you engage them, you could swing them to your side... or they could swing you to theirs. Are their politics so fragile that they avoid all opposition. Mine certainly aren't.
Not to mention, they turned down an invitation from a World Leader. Not just any World Leader, but their own World Leader. How does that make our Country look to the rest of the world. People like to bitch and moan that the President makes us look like a joke. Well look at how the People make him look. I'm not even talking about just Trump. Trump, Obama, Bush Jr. All of them have been made to look like fools by the American People.
Why should any Country take our Leader seriously when the People regard their own representative with such blatant contempt?
