I'm glad to see the former Soviet Union is trying to track down all the soldiers they lost in Afghan. It seems to be a bit of a belated effort, but I'm glad they're using scientific methodology to give the families something like closure. There are still plenty of Soviet relics, including mines, in Afghanistan.

With the current regime in power, if he returns to Russia, don't be surprised if he 'disappears' again. This time, though, he won't be found. If he returns to Uzbekistan, he might be alright. I rather doubt he'll do either and will probably stay in Afghan for the rest of his life.
