Thanks for reminding us TSgt Joe C. that on June 17, 1953 the Soviet Union ordered an entire armored division of its troops into East Berlin to crush a rebellion by East German workers and antigovernment protesters.
The Soviet assault set a precedent for the ruthless later interventions into Hungary in 1956 and Czechoslovakia in 1968.
Fortunately, the USSR crumbled and the Warsaw Pact dissolved in 1991. Now are former adversaries in the Warsaw Pact are now allies from Poland to Bulgaria and Germany has been unified.
