He's going to do it. SpaceX will be the first non-governmental agency to put spacecraft on Mars, and he's going to do it within a couple of years. This is, if you ask me, a pretty big statement for the naysayers who say he'll never make manned missions to Mars (which is his stated ultimate goal).

We'll get a look at his chances this November with the demo flight of the Falcon Heavy.
