I began life in the Navy as a SINS Mk3 Mod 4, built by Sperry Rand. At the time, it was a marvel, and second only to some other stuff boomers had. It's accuracy depended on many factors, most beyond control of you. It was a bit delicate, and it's accuracy could go to hell in a heartbeat. That was its greatest weakness. But even when the it was rocking and rolling, it was predictable and measurable. I was always fascinated more with the physics involved, than with the electronics. If you could read the error curves, and calculate the needed corrections, you could keep the QMs as cloae to track, as possible.
Good times in thoae nascent ywars of inertial nav.

I worked on the DM/SINS and found it to be a good system, the reactor scram drills were a pain and as close together as they were we didn't get much accuracy during the drill sets, but otherwise it was a very good system in my opinion

Ring Lasers came out after me. I found the older suspension Gyros. Very Accurate if you could keep someone from shutting them down. Keep the idiots from putting in bad info. Seemed like every time someone wanted to shut them down for maintenance. They would actually break. If you kept em spinning you never had any problems. I loved working on them because it was more like an art than science. I was one of the best at keeping them dead on. Could diagnose a problem without the manual. Knew the system so well I could walk you thru every signal.

I wouldn't say that it does the job real well... I was impressed by how accurate the system can be. My only thing is we can get it done better with some newer technology. I like being cutting edge I Just want the best chance to come home if a fight breaks out.

Get I can't edit off my,phone lol. What I mean is I wouldn't say internal navigation is a weak point. It does the job very well.
