Thanks for sharing significant events of April 7 Maj Marty Hogan. For the most significant are:
1862: Battle of Shiloh. Maj Gen Ulysses S. Grant defeated the Confederates under CSA Gen. Albert Sidney Johnston at the Battle of Shiloh in Tennessee which had begun the previous day. The two day battle at Shiloh produced more than 23,000 casualties and was the bloodiest battle in American history up to that time.
1939: Italy invaded Albania and following Hitler's model with Austria and the Sudetenland, the Duce Mussolini annexed illegally Albania within a week.
1945: the sinking of the enormous Japanese battleship Yamato which required 19 aerial torpedoes to accomplish. That sinking enabled the US navy to dominate the Japanese navy in the fight for the Japanese homeland beginning with Okinawa.

Thank you, my 2nd Great Grandfather was at the "Battle of Shiloh" and was injured there.
