I saw the video of the recent shooting here in the Tampa Bay area. I can say that I would not have drawn and shot in that situation. If the attack continued and I could not defend myself against it and then felt my life could be at risk that is another matter.

If you cannot hold your own in as situation like that, the best thing to do is try to de-escalate, back up, create space. Killing another human being over a parking lot issue is not something I would want to deal with.

I disagree with the first sentence. Look at what the individual is responding to: a threat. Then in the title it states racially charged violence? Where did that conclusion come from? Like this case or not, there are two individuals. One put their hands on another (if I understand this specific case). I think an important element missing is one individual is 70 years old. I believe the other is in his late 20s. So let's get the opinions of 70 year old men and ask them what their response would be once they were thrown to the ground. Would you defend yourself with a firearm if a younger man threw you to the asphalt?

I'm 73. Still working, so I get around fairly well, but I have had some work done that if hit even slightly would leave me totally defenceless except for having a firearm handy. For sure I'm not going to go looking for a problem. There was a fellow on the local news about my age who started chewing out a younger bigger guy for not returning his grocery cart to the proper place. The young man turned to him and nearly beat him to death. Fortunately, the store's employees saw what was going on and chased the guy off. The older fellow was hospitalized for quite a long time.
Make no mistake, any kind of a fall or possibility minor surgery is going to take it's toll on the aged.

Stand your ground is a tough argument especially once you are outside of your home. If you can safely leave than you should do so.

Stand your ground, in Florida, is not just inside your home. You are not required to evade/escape if being attacked. You are allowed to respond. If you feel your life or the lives of others are at risk, deadly force can be used. You better make really sure you are not over reacting or hitting a panic button etc.

I understand that, I am just not sure how I feel about it.

You are more likely to become a casualty evading than you are returning effective fire. That is how you truly should think about this. Survival or no survival.
