LTC (Join to see) I am a huge fan of Star Wars. I was fuming when they said that the books I loved were no longer a part of the canon. Clone Wars was a well done story, that was better told than the prequel trilogy. I agree with much of what CPO (Join to see) said, especially the Vader joke. Not only was it funny, but it was menacing at the same time. Definitely Episode 1 was a failure. Not just Jar Jar. The midichlorians, the contradictions from the original source material, and the mishandling of Darth Maul in addition to the previously referenced material all made the movie a disappointment. Episode VII was a virtual retelling of Episode IV, but I will give it a mulligan as it could have been Disney testing the waters. I enjoy the series Rebels. I think they have interesting characters, and it is nice to see stories about characters outside the ones we already know so well. Disney has also shown that they are not completely scapping the EU characters that have fans of their own as well. Rogue One was a better film than VII. I don't know anything about the firing of the Han Solo team, but Rogue One definitely went away from typical Disney fare. (Spoiler Alert) It did not have a shiny happy ending. Prince Charming and Snow White didn't ride off on a white horse, but instead were obliterated by the Death Star. It was more Game of Thrones than Disney. I hope that Disney will continue with this. Additionally, there has been at least one (in my opinion) good book to come from the new Star Wars Canon, Thrawn. The real problem I have is that George Lucas lost what drew me in to the Original Star Wars. He spent so much time making bad and unnecessary changes to the original trilogy that while I feared Disney would not do my beloved universe a service, they would at least stop George from fiddling with the original any further. I hope Disney does go ahead with the rumored release of the unmodified original trilogy on DVD/BlueRay/Digital. I watched the first episode of Rebels with an open mind, and came to really enjoy it. I watched Episode VII with cautious optimism, and while it was basically a retelling of Episode IV, they did at least make the new characters interesting (also kudos for making the toy fodder BB-8 and not Ewoks or Jar Jar). I had no expectations going to Rogue One, and it wound up impressing me greatly. So like it or not Star Wars is now in the hands of the Evil Mouse Empire, and all we can do as fans is hope that they make more Rogue One quality films.

I saw Rogue one already in my kids liked it I thought it was good character development and it was interesting seeing Lawrence Whitaker as someone related the Rebellion I still think of him as that angry football player on the scrimmage line in the movie Fast Times Ridgemont High after Jeff Spicoli and Whitakers brother brother crashed his nice Camaro LOL

I'm a Geek (yes I admit it) I am a Trekke, and a Star Wars fan, Stargate, Battlestar Galactica, Buck Rogers, Lost in Space, Forbidden Planet, ect ect I own them all. I have over 300 Titles on DVD and 9 Terabytes on Hard drive.... (everyone needs a Hobby)
That being said Star Wars 4,5,6 and Rogue One are the only ones worth watching. 1. Sets the stage but Jar Jar should have never been,.. and made a comedic mockery of the movie, Also the age difference between Padma and Anakin is disgusting. She is LITERLY robbing the cradle. 2. Has so many plot holes you could fly a star destroyer through it, you end up rooting for the Sith, the Jedi end up looking like our own congress and refuse to take any action. 3. was the same ending as 1 (High Ground Low Ground cut in half) and for a guy that was suppose to be dispassionate Obi one sure was pissed and emotional.... Then we have The Force Awakes... Which is Star Wars 4 just :::::BIGGER::::: They even threw in the trash compacter joke. Orphan on a desert planet, find the falcon, You have the mentor killed, they have to fly inside the thing to destroy it.... yad yad yad.
Some people didn't like Vader telling a joke in Rogue One, but in his defense it was a good joke.
And that's my short short Vs of what's wrong in Star Wars.

Excellent analysis petty officer Spencer you made me remember a bunch of stuff that I didn't think about. Thank you for putting your time into this I'm a geek too I just I'm passive aggressive geek. Recently been watching the movie Battleship I know it's full of holes from the Navy perspective but I still think it's a cool thing it makes your if the board game science fiction and the Navy's finest and the greatest generation of Battleship Sailors who were part of the old salt cast.

Thanks for sharing LTC (Join to see). To be honest I do not think that Star Wars is the same today as it was in the 1980s
