Every politician makes promises they can't keep. Once upon a time most Americans understood the concept of "let the buyer beware". Prior to the advent of progressive justices, people who complained (sued) over false advertising were laughed at (or laughed out of court). They were expected to know better. All salespeople/politicians promise the world and deliver little. It was known as "sales puffery". Well, it seems that we have grown accustomed to a new age in which "caveat emptor" (let the buyer beware) has been replaced with "caveat vendor" (let the seller beware). This is why every commercial message is accompanied by disclaimers. Maybe our politicians should come with disclaimers.
When a candidate for any political office promises that they'll fix the economy or create jobs, that's just sales puffery. Even if they win election, there is nothing any government official can do to create jobs. Nothing. Or fix the economy. Nothing. The best they can hope for is to not impede business from creating jobs. To allow individuals to create wealth in a free marketplace.
Government's only legitimate function is to regulate the participants in free markets to insure that all are playing on a level field and to adjudicate disputes when the parties to a commercial exchange are unable to resolve the dispute themselves. Every attempt by governments to interfere beyond those very limited activities results in... well the kind of economic malaise that we are caught up in today.

Wages suck?
That traces directly back to Reagan. That is when the GOP attack on the country itself began.
5. Unemployment issues -
When Ronald Reagan came into office 1981, unemployment was at 7.5%. After Reagan cut taxes for the wealthy, he began raising taxes on the middle and lower class. Corporations started to ship more jobs out of the United States while hiring cheap foreign labor in order to make a bigger profit. While corporations made billions, Americans across the country lost their jobs. As 1982 came to a close, unemployment was nearly 11%. Unemployment began to drop as the years went on, but the jobs that were created were low paying and barely helped people make ends meet. The middle and lower class had their wages nearly frozen as the top earners saw dramatic increases in salary. "
And if you recall, one of the few problems the mouth breathers had with Bush 43 was that he winked at illegal immigration; and for the same reason. To drive down wages for all American workers.

Capt Walter Miller
There has been no real increase in the value of wages of workers since the 1970's and Ronald Reagan is the reason. That - and brain dead citizens who watch FOX and vote for the GOP.
