My question for everyone is "how in the world does something like this happen?" United's own policy states that the pet carrier must go under the seat. Today, especially, with so much knowledge and intelligence in our society, how does this happen? Did the Attendant honestly not know? Had the family been raised not to question authority even in the event of life or death?

SGT Donald H “Don” Bates, she won’t simply because this one instance or the culmination? For example; after I posted this the airline also sent a dog to Japan.

This just makes me ill thinking about it. I have a daughter who breeds and trains labs and she will not fly any puppy.
