This is not the first time this type of review has come up. As an old knuckle dragging barbarian I will say yes they are overused. Unfortunately, the powers that be have to assess all of SOF missions which are necessary and which are just good. One of the SOF Truths, "you cant mass produce SOF troops". The importance is every time we lose an SOF trooper it takes a long time to reproduce his replacement. What most people dont understand we dont loose all our SOF in combat, there are many ways. It is a tough job and they are the best at what they do, we have got to take care of them.

Sabrena 9/11/01 I was in South America working, I had been there several times that year and had been there for several weeks on that particular trip. I had my first and only son who was still a baby. One day some years later I was pretty upset as I sat with my wife and discussed the fact that out of my sons six years of life I had been home for less than half of it. I knew what I was doing was important and necessary but what a fucking cost. Sorry for the language.
I have had good days and bad days but when it comes time to give an overall assessment of the time in and the missions etc... It was why I/we signed up to do what we did. I dont think I am better than anyone else, just different, I realize after 20+ years of working as a hunter of bad men, it truly is a team effort. I remember sending cooks and mechanics to A-camps deep in bad guy country. What always made me smile was the cooks and mechanics never thought of it as punishment, it was always a reward. I always explained when you go to the A-camp you will work your ass off doing your regular job plus you are going to have to fight on a regular basis and they did.
Sabrena we are a team, I have had Air Force troopers assigned to the A TMs on a pretty regular basis. I have gotten help form every service out there and most MOS's so we are for sure a team.
I love our SOF operators, you are right my friend we have got to take care of them.
Sorry a little TBI rant.

Not surprised. Crazy optempo and retention issues takes its toll in addition to the many who die in combat over the years.
